Freeze your energy bills

Try to position your fridge or freezer in a cool place, not next to the cooker, boiler, or in the sun.

Your fridge and freezer are on all the time, so it is worth minimising the amount of electricity they use. More tips to save on refrigeration costs are:

  • Defrost regularly - ice should never be more than 6 mm thick.
  • Allow air to circulate around the back.
  • Try to keep your freezer full and at the correct temperature.
  • Do not put hot food in the fridge or freezer.
  • Load and unload food quickly - do not keep the door open for longer than you need to.
